Getting Started
Welcome to Mazes and Monsters. This page covers the basic steps needed to install the client and point it at the current game server.
Download The Client
Download the current Windows installer:
| Windows Client |
|---|
| Download Mazes and Monsters for Windows |
After the download finishes, run the installer and launch Mazes and Monsters from the installed shortcut.
Set The Server Connection
Before connecting, open Options in the client and verify the connection settings.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Hostname | game.mazes-and-monsters.com |
| Port | 5682 |
Save the settings, return to the login screen, and connect.
Create Your Account
Account creation is handled inside the Mazes and Monsters client. From the login screen, choose Create Account, enter a username, password, and email address, then select Register. Passwords must be at least eight characters long.
After registration succeeds, return to the login screen and sign in with the account you created.
Useful Client Features
The client includes several tools that can make common actions easier from the beginning. Open the Settings menu while playing to find Aliases and Hotkeys. These settings are saved for each character, and you can copy them from another character later.
Aliases
Aliases turn a short name into a longer command. In Settings > Aliases, choose Add Alias, enter an alias and its command, then save it.
For example:
| Alias | Command | Example Use |
|---|---|---|
heal | cast cure at #1 | heal @nearest.friendly.injured |
Alias commands can accept numbered parameters:
#1through#9are required parameters.&1through&9are optional parameters.- If an alias has no parameter markers, any extra words you type are added to the end of its command.
The question-mark button in the Aliases window opens additional examples and command help.
Hotkeys
In Settings > Hotkeys, you can bind a key combination to either a Command or a Game Action.
- A Command is sent as though you typed it. It can use an alias or a target selector such as
@nearest.hostileor@nearest.friendly.injured. - A Game Action performs a client feature directly, such as opening an inventory tab or the Quest Journal.
The Hotkeys window also controls the input mode. Modifier bindings such as Ctrl or Alt combinations work in both modes. Bare-key bindings work in PressToChat mode, where Enter activates chat and Esc returns control to hotkeys.
Some useful default bindings are:
| Hotkey | Action |
|---|---|
| Alt+J | Open the Quest Journal |
| Alt+C | Open the Portrait tab |
| Alt+S | Open the Sack tab |
| Alt+B | Open the Belt tab |
| Alt+P | Open the Spells tab |
| Ctrl+S | Finish the movement path currently being previewed |
| F12 | Take a screenshot |
Quest Journal
The Quest Journal tracks your active quests, their current instructions, and your progress toward their objectives. Open it with Alt+J by default, or assign a different binding from the Hotkeys window.
The journal tracks quests you have already accepted. Continue speaking with NPCs and exploring each land to discover new ones.
Once you enter the world, see Beginning Your Adventure for an overview of the progression paths available to a fresh character.
